AFTON, N.Y. – Jamie
Christian has found
his groove behind
the wheel of a
Capital Region
Sprint Agency 305
RaceSaver Sprint
Car. The former
Modified driver
scored yet another
victory on Friday
night at the I-88
Speedway in the
25-lap A-Main event.
Christian
beat out the stiff
CRSA competition as
well as a cold front
that brought rain
shortly after the
conclusion of the
event to earn his
third career series
victory.
On
this night,
Christian was the
last car to make the
redraw for the race
as he made a last
lap pace to earn
that position in his
heat race. He was
far more fortunate
during the redraw as
he redrew the
outside front row
starting position
for the nightcap.
At the start
of the race,
Christian, of West
Winfield, N.Y., saw
John Matrafailo on
the front row
alongside him.
Christian made sure
to beat Matrafailo
into turn one to
secure the race
lead.
Caution slowed the
field on lap five as
Bill Corsa spun.
This placed the
entire field on the
back of Christian
for a single-file
restart.
The
race returned green
with Christian
leading the way.
Matrafailo stayed
with Christian while
Jeremy Quick, Brett
Jaycox and Matt
Tanner made their
moves to the front.
The top five
remained together as
the laps wound down.
Christian was
challenged but he
remained steady at
the front of the
field.
A
second caution was
shown on lap 21 as
Matrafailo and Quick
got together as the
battled for the
second position.
Matrafailo spun and
Quick was sent to
the rear for his
part in the
incident.
With only four
circuits remaining,
Jaycox and Tanner
applied heavy
pressure to
Christian for the
lead. Christian was
unfazed as he led
the rest of the way
for the feature win.
Jaycox, of
East Durham, N.Y.,
finished in second
with the 2009 series
champion Tanner
having to settle for
third.
Ryan
Smith, of
Kunkletown, Pa.,
came home in fourth
and Josh Pieniazek
continued his strong
tour effort to
finish in fifth.
